On April 10, 2023, the United Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was visited by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Pyotr Parkhomchik, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov, Academic Secretary of the Department of Physical and Technical Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Sergei Shcherbakov, Deputy Minister of Industry of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Ogorodnikov, heads of BelAZ, MTZ, MAZ, Belkommunmash, Mogilevliftmash, MMZ, BelGee, organizations of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
The participants of the event got acquainted with the latest developments of the Academy of Sciences in the field of mechanical engineering and discussed the activities of the scientific and engineering center for the automotive industry, created on the basis of the United Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
"The Head of State highly appreciates science and always notes the importance of introducing its achievements into the country's economy as quickly as possible. The development of the domestic automotive industry is one of the priorities. The Government leadership is aiming the scientific sphere at the strategic vision of mechanical engineering, including the automotive industry," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Pyotr Parkhomchik said that an impressive amount of work has been done in machine science over the past 5-6 years, significant results have been obtained, first of all, in creating their own domestic competencies, which must be literally "decomposed" into productions so that in a global sense each organization of the Academy of Sciences provides a specific niche of industry with developments. The Deputy Prime Minister set a target task for the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Ministry of Industry to form work programs between enterprises and academic organizations, starting with organizations of the Department of Physical and Technical Sciences, with financing from enterprises. "Even at the stage of scientific development, there should be a customer from the industry," Pyotr Parkhomchik said.
The participants of the event — representatives of the management and design services of mechanical engineering enterprises — highly appreciated the results of work with the United Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The topics of interaction range from calculations of machine structures and their components, design, engineering, modeling, optimization, to virtual and field tests of equipment. They expressed their opinion on the prospects of cooperation with the Institute in the field of creating high-speed gearboxes, modern electric motors, including hybrid, electronic control systems, highly automated (unmanned) equipment.
Special attention was paid to the issues of electric vehicle construction, including the creation and production of a passenger car. The Deputy Prime Minister, the leadership of the Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Industry noted that the United Institute of Mechanical Engineering has mastered technologies and developed competencies for designing modern electric power plants for electric vehicles of various classes and purposes, and has completed a number of major projects. The most interesting of them were presented at the exhibition Intellectual Belarus. The Institute is ready to "undertake" the creation of a domestic passenger electric vehicle based on a serial chassis (platform), which will be determined by the Ministry of Industry. The Institute already has experience in creating such equipment.
"Along with solving the issues of the passenger car design and component base, it is necessary to have our own domestic control system for both the car as a whole and its components and aggregates. Here it is necessary to bring together the competencies of scientists and production workers. Such a competence center should be at the United Institute of Mechanical Engineering. The Ministry of Industry should determine which enterprises of various forms of ownership should be involved in this work. We will meet quarterly at various venues, discuss the implementation of these issues and make decisions on them," the Deputy Prime Minister concluded.
